Math scholars are acutely aware what $3.14 gets them on Wednesday.

March 14 is Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), which is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The trillion digit ratio is rounded to 3.14.

For the rest of us, it’s simply a day of deals on pizza, pastry and pot pies.

We’re here at last: March 14 — Pi day. Pizza’s day in the sun, which really has nothing to do with pizza at all, except that some pizzas are round, and pi is the ratio of the length around circular things compared with the length across them, which comes out to 3.14. I think.
